Welcome to Meet the Cosplayer, where I introduce you to some of the fantastic, creative talent within the Rainbow Six: Siege community. This series is meant to showcase the amazing cosplayers no matter their skill level or experience.
I sat down and spoke with cosplayer MischievousBee about their history with cosplay, what got them into it, the challenges they faced and other things.
Bee is 19 years old from Colorado, though currently unemployed they look towards entering the technology field.
What got you interested in cosplay?
“When I was a little kid, I loved Halloween and always wanted to dress up as my favourite characters from videogames. Then, I went to my first ComicCon and saw that people dressed up like that year round and decided that I wanted to as well.”
How long have you been cosplaying for?
“I’ve been cosplaying since I was about 9 or 10 years old, so it’s been about 10 years.”
What has been the most difficult part about cosplaying for you?
“The most difficult part about cosplay is finding the money to buy cosplays, or having the time to make one.”
When cosplaying, what have been three most important things for you to have with you?
“Safety pins, blister band-aids and water. Heat exhaustion is no joke in cosplay!”
When you started cosplaying, what was an obstacle or challenge that you encountered?
“I was just a little kid when I first started cosplaying, so really the biggest obstacle was having no money of my own to buy cosplays and materials or the skills to make my own. When I got a little older, maybe around 13 or so, I could make money by doing side jobs like walking dogs or babysitting. I also ended up learning how to sew in school and borrowed the school’s sewing machines to make my cosplays.”
What advice would you give to people wanting to start cosplay for the first time?
“Don’t listen to people telling you that you can’t cosplay a certain character because you don’t have the same body type as them. Who cares? Make it your own and own your body. They didn’t buy or make your cosplay, so they shouldn’t have a say in it.”
