Welcome to Meet the Cosplayer, where I introduce you to some of the fantastic, creative talent within the Rainbow Six: Siege community. This series is meant to showcase the amazing cosplayers no matter their skill level or experience.

I sat down and spoke with cosplayer PicRic_Acid about his history with cosplay, what got him into it, the challenges he faced and other things.

PicRic_Acid, aka Connor, is a mechanical engineer from Wales.

What got you interested in cosplay?

“I have been making props and outfits for many of my friends cosplaying, with an event taking place nearby I thought it would be fun to bring some of my old air soft equipment along on a whim. I saw how much fun my friends have in cosplay and thought it would be an interesting time.”

How long have you been cosplaying for?

“I only started cosplaying myself in 2024 for the Manchester Major after realising the Major fell on the perfect days for me to take a holiday.”

What has been the most difficult part about cosplaying for you?

“Every event I attend, I always struggle with finding the confidence to put myself out there. I find it all too easy to get in my own head about how I look, act, pose, talk… I don’t think I’ll ever be 100% happy with myself in that regard but once I arrive at the venue everybody is always so supportive and positive that I end up forgetting I was even nervous to begin with! Outside of that just finding the time alongside my job is always a nightmare and travelling with my Blackbeard shield has been a nightmare!”

When cosplaying, what have been three most important things for you to have with you?

“Water is the most important thing, whether that’s a camelbak you can fill or just a pocket on your cosplay for a water bottle, staying hydrated is so so so key to having a good time. Outside of that, bringing a small first aid kit is always top of my list too, plasters, tape and safety pins always find uses, even it it’s not all medical. Finally, deodorant is super important too, smelling good is always a good idea for yourself and everyone else.”

When you started cosplaying, what was an obstacle or challenge that you encountered?

“Cosplaying quickly filled up what little space I had left in my room, finding the space to store, sew, paint and make all the stuff I desired quickly became a challenge. The first shield I made was about half the size it should have been because of this!”

What advice would you give to people wanting to start cosplay for the first time?

“Just do it, start with whatever you have available to you, no matter how small! My first cosplay was a plate carrier, helmet and scarf!

Once you’ve dipped your toes in and hopefully realised that it’s for you then it just getting organised! I’m always an advocate for writing down everything in a notebook and making lists. Maybe it’s from my work as an engineer but having a BOM (Bill of Materials) really helps with keeping to a budget and organising my thoughts on what to do next!”
