The next chapter of the biggest event in Rainbow Six Siege is heading to Boston in February! Unfortunately, the venue’s restrictions means that we cosplayers may not be able to attend in full gear like we always do.
Ubisoft & BLAST have today announced that the Six Invitational, the largest eSports event in Rainbow Six Siege, is heading to Boston, Massachusetts for the first time. The City of Champions will be the first US venue to host an Invitational, and the first time the event has been held in the USA.
The venue, the MGM Music Hall in Boston, has however instructed Ubisoft that cosplayers won’t be allowed to bring key elements of their costumes to the event – effectively crippling the cosplay community hoping to attend Siege’s biggest event. Despite Ubisoft’s efforts, the venue has said no.
Face coverings, weapon replicas and even gadgets – such as the ones that I make for the community – will not be permitted into the venue.
Cosplay has been a huge part of Siege since the first Invitational, and is an integral part of the community. The knowledge that the venue is prohibiting cosplayers from bringing key parts of their costumes is deflating, if not disheartening.
It is the hope of me, and other cosplayers in this community, that the MGM Music Hall will make amends to their ruling regarding costume pieces and work alongside Ubisoft/BLAST in allowing these elements of cosplay to be permitted.
